Frequently Asked Questions and Information
What is Chronically Well Counseling?
Chronically Well Counseling is a fully telehealth mental health counseling service. Melissa Hudson is the founder and primary therapist, licensed in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Why telehealth counseling?
Telehealth counseling is done using a live video link to meet with Melissa. Telehealth counseling allows you the client the flexibility to schedule a time that works best for you. It allows the client to be in a space that is convenient and comfortable for them, often when we are physically more comfortable it can bring forward an ease in becoming more verbally comfortable.
Safety is the uppermost priority and sessions will not be conducted while a client is driving. The ease of scheduling is helpful, and if a session needs to be scheduled while a client is in a parked car that is acceptable. It is important for the client to have a space that provides them not only comfort but confidentiality from those around them. Headphones, and/or a private separate room are recommended.
How often do I have to go to therapy? How will I know if it’s working?
The frequency of therapy depends on a variety of factors which are individual to each person and the situation(s) which they are presenting. Generally, meeting 1 day a week is common. It is important for a client to think ahead of what time and financial commitment it reasonable for them, and then in the initial consultation discuss this to determine if the need can be met.
Therapy progress varies from client to client. It is important to acknowledge one will gain from therapy what they are willing to put into it. Plainly speaking, the therapist can not care more about the client’s mental health and well being more than the client themselves.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time Chronically Well Counseling does not accept any health insurance. If this is a barrier for you please share as it is being evaluated on a regular basis. Sessions are paid for on an individual basis.
How do I know if we’ll be a good match?
Excellent ask. I as a therapist bring forward a relaxed, warm, casual approach. I utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions including behavioral strategies (physical strategies for a client to try), mindfulness (mediation, relaxation techniques), and cognitive techniques (recognizing thoughts and processing them). Before any client agrees to work together we have a 15 minute consultation together. This consultation allows the client to share what they are seeking therapy for, and for the therapist to share their style and approach. Afterwards the client and therapist are encouraged to think about the interaction and then proceed forward if interested. If there are areas which the therapist does not feel the therapist can manage then the client will be provided with resources for other therapists.
If the client does not feel a connection with the therapist that is okay as well, and asked to communicate this.
